discipline..or lack thereof

i've been a SAHM now for about 3 weeks. things have been awesome. loving every second of it but quickly realizing how UN-disciplined my child is. was talking with my bestie yesterday about difficult behavior/time out/etc. i need to start researching on appropriate discipline for an (almost) 2 year old. he's doing typical toddler behavior..i knew it was coming, and has probably been happening for a while but now that i'm with him 24/7 i guess i really see it now. the screaming, hitting, saying no, throwing things, bad temper, meltdowns...you name it, my son does it. he's not BAD though. he's a really good listener WHEN HE WANTS TO BE (which is about only half the time - lol) and he is just so smart (sometimes too smart for me). going out in public with him is both exhausting and embarrassing. oh, and going out to eat in a restaurant (even kid-friendly ones) is absolutely impossible (or ridiculous one). any tips mama's? ugh i'm pulling my hair out!!
